This worksheet by veteran teacher and long time advocate of Comprehensible Input, Bob Patrick, has been a great resource for me. His ideas of how to introduce vocabulary for retention are right on target with second language acquisition research. I used his ideas, in addition to my textbook, to play vocabulary "games" with my students, acting out words, drawing them, giving commands (Simon says), etc. Since I started doing these vocabulary activities with TPR and Comprehensible Input, my students have increased their vocabulary tremendously.

Latin Flashcards Part I: Quizlet
I have found Quizlet to be an invaluable resource these past few years. I had the opportunity to attend conferences and read articles about second language acquisition. A common thread appears to be that second language vocabulary is not acquired directly through knowledge the first language vocabulary, although knowledge of the first language is certainly helpful. Because of this, I require students to create flashcards for Latin words with pictures rather than the corresponding Latin word. Quizlet is a great resource for this. Students can create flashcards with the Latin word and with a picture that they look up. If they wish to create a paid account, they can also use their own pictures for vocabulary words. You can also get a paid teacher account that you can use to create flashcards for your class with pictures and with sound. Additionally, many decks of flashcards are shared, so you can look up specific decks to see if there is already a deck for what you are studying. Once the flashcards are created, my students enjoy studying from the quizlet mobile app and playing games with the vocabulary words, such as space race.
